Costa Rica Earthquake

San Jose, Costa Rica was hit by a magnitude 6.1 earthquake yesterday at 1:21pm leaving 19 dead.  The actual epicenter was located 20 miles NNW of the capitol city of San Jose, but was reported being felt all over the country, as well as, in neighboring Nicaragua.

Costa Rica resides within an extremely active volcanic region with 7 active volcanoes and 112 known volcanic formations in total, as well as, the Cocos Tectonic Plate subduction boundary, which causes many earthquakes as it travels beneath the country.

The volcanic activity that shook Costa Rica is just an ongoing part of the same process that created the land mass that is Costa Rica.  There is always some kind of activity happening in Costa Rica.  Do yourself a favor.  Come on down and see what’s shaken!
