Costa Rica Surfing Report – Tamarindo Surfing Contest Update

Yesterday, the Torneo Witch’s Rock a 4-star held in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica was held in small waist high waves as contestants battled it out to move on to the next round and a chance at gaining some ground on current CNS (Costa Rican National Surfing Circuit) points leader Jason Torres.

Jason Torres made a name for himself on the international competitive surfing scene when he placed 5th overall in the mens open division of the 2008 World Surfing Games held in Portugal last October.  This is the highest finish for a Costa Rican in international competition.  He and Nataly Bertold, who placed 6th overall in the womens division, helped give the Costa Rican Team its highest placement in international competition with a 5th place finish.

Una Ola guests, Jason Torres, Gilbert Brown and Josymar Fuentes all advanced into the quarter final round being held this morning in Tamarindo.  Josymar, who rides for Una Ola, was on a tear yesterday ripping up the small lefts that were peeling through the rivermouth at high tide.  Hopefully, he can keep it up to make the finals today.

Good luck guys!
