Costa Rica Weather:
Costa Rica weather is generally based on two seasons, the dry season (December – March) and the wet season (April – November). Although Costa Rica is located in the northern hemisphere, many of the locals refer to the dry season as “summer” and the wet season as “winter”. We will not refer to the Costa Rica weather patterns based on local nomenclature, because, simply its confusing to most travelers.
Costa Rica is located in the tropics and therefore the weather in Costa Rica is considered to be mostly tropical in nature though weather varies from region to region. For instance, in the northern coastal region (Guanacaste Province) the weather can get extremely hot and dry in the winter and extremely humid and wet during the summer months.
In the higher elevations of Costa Rica, the weather can get down right chilly from time to time. If you are traveling to the area, it is advisable to bring long pants and a light rain jacket or sweater, especially at night. However, most people find the climate around San Jose, Costa Rica to be as close to perfect weather as one could imagine with temperatures averaging around 75 degrees fahrenheit.
