beached whale

Surf Report – Costa Rica Surfing Reports – June 29, 2010

Costa Rica Surf Report:

5-6ft  Shoulder to head high waves with poor shape.

Playa Grande, Costa Rica -   The waves were junk when I went out to take photos this morning.  There is still plenty of size, but the conditions were mixed up and it looked quite messy.  The wind is light onshore and semi-glassy, but the dropping tide was not helping.  Hopefully, the winds calm down as the tide begins heading back in this afternoon.

Some of the photos depict a rescue attempt of what appeared to be a beached tropical bottlenose whale (Indopacetus Pacificus).  Several attempts were made to get the animal out through the breaking waves, but each time it looked as if the whale would make it out to safety, it would turn back towards the beach and become stuck again.

Costa Rica Tides:

We had an early morning high tide of 8.71ft @ 4:42am, dropping down to a low tide of 1.19ft @ 10:40am, moving back up to a high tide of 8.72ft @ 4:50pm this evening.

Costa Rica Weather:

We have gray and mostly cloudy skies with light onshore winds with a good chance of rain.  It’s looking to be another beautiful day in Playa Grande, Costa Rica.
