Surf Report - Pavones, Costa Rica - May 6, 2012

Costa Rica Surf Report:

5-7ft  Shoulder to head high + waves with poor to fair shape.

Pavones, Costa Rica –  The point looked like junk when I returned this evening.  A super high tide washing over the estuary banks, and what looked like the remnants of strong onshore winds, blowing most of the day, made it look like a complete mess.  Though, it looks like tomorrow has a lot of potential.  We’ll see in the morning.

Costa Rica Tides:

We had a morning low tide of -0.52ft @ 8:22am, moving up to a high tide of 10.26ft @ 2:42pm, then dropping back down to a low tide of -1.22ft @ 8:57pm tonight.

Costa Rica Weather:

The weather in Pavones, Costa Rica was hot with mostly cloudy skies today then raining later this evening.  The wind was calm early, before onshore winds took over for the remainder of the day.

Surf Report - Pavones, Costa Rica - May 5, 2012

Costa Rica Surf Report:

6-9ft  Overhead waves with fair shape.

Pavones, Costa Rica –  The point was big, but had weird winds.  Harley decided to head to Matapalo, which looked perfect at Backwash, from the photos.  I’m currently in Playa Hermosa, where it’s big and closing out.  There were some huge A-frame peaks that looked good until dumping all at once on the inside.  Huge tidal swings and light variable winds are making for timing issues at most spots, but for those who know where to go, at the right time, scored today.

Costa Rica Tides:

We had a morning low tide of -0.14ft @ 7:30am, moving up to a high tide of 9.88ft @ 1:52pm, then dropping back down to a low tide of -0.85ft @ 8:07pm tonight.

Costa Rica Weather:

The weather in Pavones, Costa Rica was hot with mostly cloudy skies today then raining later this evening.  The wind was calm early, turning to light variable onshore winds all day.

Surf Report - Pavones, Costa Rica - May 4, 2012

Costa Rica Surf Report:

6-9ft  Overhead waves with good shape.

Pavones, Costa Rica –  I’m in Playa Hermosa, so I’m having Harley take the surf report photos for the next few days.  It’s big and walled out in Hermosa with funky winds.  No one out.  Harley says, “Pavones is sooo good!”  You’ll have to take his word for it.  I can only assume the huge tidal swings made a big difference, so timing would be key to scoring the best waves.

Costa Rica Tides:

We had an early morning low tide of 0.34ft @ 6:38am, moving up to a high tide of 9.34ft @ 1:01pm, dropping down to a low tide of -0.30ft @ 7:16pm this evening.

Pavones, Costa Rica –  I was feeling ill when I awoke this morning, and decided to sleep in.  So, it could have been epic but you’ll never know.  Not that I care.  I’m just saying.  Anyways, when I did check it the swell seemed to have picked up slightly, but was shutting down through the rivermouth, and there was a light onshore wind bump making it less than appealing to me.  I decided to split before it cleaned up and I felt compelled to surf.  Instead, I went back home crawled into bed and started writing this report so you stay informed.
